We’ve all heard the phrase before… “I feel your pain!”,…… but is it really a ‘true’ feeling? I suppose it all depends on the relationship….
I’ve never actually said that I’ve ‘felt’ anyones pain before even if I have experienced the pain because that phrase is so over used that it really means nothing at all. Besides, if you REALLY feel someones pain, wouldn’t the natural response be to ‘comfort’ that person in order to relieve that pain that you (and the person with the pain) are experiencing?
It wasn’t too long ago when I found out that my best friend Ronnie Slack had cancer…. I had no idea what to do or how to react – it was a total shock. I prayed,….. I prayed to GOD…. not to Jesus; not to Mary; not to the Holy Spirit; or not to any ‘Saint’,…… I went right straight to the source – GOD ALMIGHTY….. Although I do claim Christ as my savior and the Holy Spirit as my comforter,…….. my communications are ALWAYS directly to the Big Guy – NO friggin’ ‘Middle Man’!
Three days ago, my buddy Ronnie had to undergo surgery for a feeding tube to be installed so that he can stay strong enough to endure his upcoming radiation and chemo treatments. I FELT HIS PAIN!! And I also feel his pain from the healing process of that procedure. Three days ago I was feeling so much pain that I could not walk. Today I’m feeling better and able to get around a bit. I FEEL HIS PAIN.
When you really love someone, the pain that they experience is a ‘real’ thing. This to me is the same pain that Christ Himself felt for the world…… As humans, we are to follow that same example and feel for and care for the ones we love. It is THIS empathy that GOD acknowledges and accepts as the true sacrifice that we are to offer in order to have the relationship that HE truly wants us to understand in order to commune with Him – not some alter call profession or some dip in the hot tub,….. I’m taking about the REAL thing here…. True love……..
Since I know Ronnie the way I do, I know that it’s gonna be real hard for him to stay down because of all of the treatments that he’ll be faced with. Ronnie’s a ‘Hands On’ type of dude that is use to creating things both physically and mentally – he also needs to be challenged…. It’s because of this that I started ‘our’ blog….. I’m looking forward to reading some of his ‘Words of Wisdom’ online – especially since I can’t hear them in person during our semi-annual ‘Fun Fest’ here in Middle Georgia…….
Be so damn close to the ones you love that you actually ‘FEEL’ (experience) their pain,….. But more importantly….. DO something about it…… You may not get another chance…..
