Welcome to Bill Lanahan's "Sailfish Home Page". This web site is dedicated to the officers and crew of the USS Sailfish (SS-572), and to the boat itself for allowing me the privilege of serving aboard her.

This site is made up of many pages, all focused around the lives we lived while cramped in a"Fossil Fuelin' Sewer Pipe Smoke-Boat" we called home, yet trusted and depended upon to surface after each dive. I hope you enjoy your visit. Check back often as I do try to keep some of the pages updated as changes occur.

"Hogans Alley" BBS Message Board is available to everyone. Post messages for other users or former crew members, start or participate in a topic discussion, or locate shipmates or fellow submariners.

Below is a listing and synopsis of the pages within this web site.

Sailfish Photo Album

Updated 10/06/03
This page contains a lot of my own personal photos along with many that were supplied by former crew members of the 572. The main pages contain "Thumbnails" with photo descriptions in order to allow you the opportunity to "Pick and Choose" the photos you want to view. Feel free to copy any of the photos within the site, just be sure to list "BillLanahan.com", as the photo source. When viewing each graphic, be sure to use your browsers "Back" button in order to return to the Photo Album page. Be advised that this site is the most "Graphic Intense" page of this site and may take upwards of one minute to load using a low speed dial up connection.
Lanny's Engine Rooms This page "Reeks" of diesel! This is what I remember life as when I started out as a "Non-qual" oiler in the After Engine Room until the time I became a "Qualified Throttleman" in the Forward Engine Room.
Tales From The "After Battery" (Sea Stories)
Updated 01/13/04
This page is sure to bring back the smells of coffee and mid-rats that filled the "After Battery" crews mess in between watches. These "Stories", or "No-Shitters" as they were (and still are) so commonly referred to are actual tales taken from the very pages of the Sailfish BBS Message Board! Each story is "Verbatim", and credit is given to the story's author! This page is sure to supply some good readin' material so be sure to charge the batteries in the 'ol laptop before you visit the "After Battery Head"!
Reunion Information
Updated 02/07/04
This page is devoted to keeping everyone "Up to date" on the latest scuttle-butt on our next Sailfish reunion. I will also use this page to post reunion photos along with those "Just look at me now" photos of 572 crew members. This page also contains "Then & Now" photos of crewmembers.
New!! Information on the 2004 reunion in Saratoga, NY is available! Please check in to see what's being planned for our reunion. Even if you are not planning to attend, PLEASE take the time to complete and submit the 2004 Reunion Form. Some of the information on the form will be used to assemble a 2004 Sailfish "Crew Listing" that will be available to "All Hands". Be sure to make your hotel reservations! Rooms are at a PREMIUM and are filling fast.
